ME 4012 divides the entire process in functionally isolated horizontal control levels. This organization leads to a well defined and clearly structured automation architecture of the plant or process. The vertical arrangement of the individual control levels, implemented by means of independent programmable controllers and sub-processors, results in a process-oriented distributed configuration with a hierarchical structure. Availability and redundancy can thus be implemented as required by the process and the exchange of signals between function units reduced to an optimal minimum.
